Snowy Owls is one of our two Reception classes and is taught by Miss Lamont, with support from nursery nurse Miss Keeling and teaching assistants Mrs North and Miss Burnell. Support is also provided by our team of bi-lingual assistants –Mrs Dziopa and Mrs Haddouche.
The school day starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.15pm, with a break for lunch from 12.00 noon until 1.00pm.
The full-time children have more focused activities than the part-time ones. They have Literacy and Numeracy sessions, which gradually increase in length as the year progresses, ready for KS1. The children learn to read using Read, Write, Inc – a system which links, reading and writing together. Parents are invited to come and find out more during the Autumn term.
The children are free to access the outside area for most of the day – learning doesn’t just take place indoors!
The children take turns to do Forest School activities with Mr Williams. Mr Bass, one of our gardeners, supports planting and growing activities. As well as using our extensive grounds, the children make use of local woods.
In Snowy Owls, the children have a timetabled PE session on a Wednesday and are expected to change into their PE kit. Please make sure all items of clothing have your child’s name inside and that PE kits are at school during the week.
In Foundation, we celebrate the children’s achievements in our own Golden Assembly on Thursday afternoon at 3pm. We invite the parents of the children who will be getting a ticket to share in the celebration. In the Summer term, the children go to Golden Assembly on Friday Mornings to help with transition into Key Stage 1.
The children follow a topic-based curriculum, very much focused on learning through play. The children may work as a whole class, in small groups, or 1-1 with an adult. They enjoy many educational visits around the local area and further afield.
Parents are welcome to come along for our Friday Drop-In sessions at 9.30am until 11.30am.
