|Our school dinners provide a healthy balanced meal for your children. The menus are on a two-weekly rota and are changed regularly, so as to provide a varied choice of dishes. The children have a choice of main meal and dessert every day and we cater for vegetarians and children with food allergies.|
Our meals are provided by Kirklees Catering Service, which holds the Food For Life Partnership Silver Award. This means you can be sure our school meals are of a consistently high standard and contain no artificial colours, preservatives or hydrogenated fats. Our school kitchen was awarded five stars for food hygiene and has been awarded gold Food For Life Partnership Award. This means more organic and responsibly sourced food is on the lunchtime menu. As a school, Hillside holds the silver Food For Life Award.
|The cost of a school dinner is currently £2.20 a day. Since September 2014, all full-time children up to the end of Year 2, are able to have a free school dinner as part of the government’s Universal Free School Meals scheme. This only entitles them to a school dinner. If you are receiving certain benefits, you may be entitled to benefit-related free school meals. This will also mean your child will receive free milk and extra money to support their learning. You will need to register each child individually. This has to be done online, via the Kirklees Council website. If you need support doing this, please call in at one of the morning drop-in sessions, where staff can do it for you. We hold regular ‘themed’ lunches, such as Bonfire Night, Chinese New Year and Christmas. These are offered to children who normally have a packed lunch and prove very popular. We also offer a ‘Friday Feast’, where packed lunch children can have a school dinner once a week. Look out for letters in your child’s book bag.||
